Currently based in Bentonville, Arkansas, she is a vital cultural ambassador, actively performing and collaborating with institutions to foster rich, cross-cultural artistic dialogues throughout the region.

A Lifelong Devotion to the Classical Arts

The Journey from Age Three

The profound mastery required to teach Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattam cannot be acquired in a fraction of a lifetime; it demands an unwavering, lifelong devotion. For Dr. Omanakuttan, this rhythmic dialogue began at the formative age of three. Immersed early in the rich, demanding traditions of India’s classical arts, her foundational years were defined by intense, rigorous training under revered Gurus. Commencing at such a young age allowed the complex rhythmic cycles and nuanced expressive vocabulary of the dances to become deeply ingrained in her physical and artistic psyche.

Over the ensuing decades, the dedicated child captured in this archival photograph blossomed into a distinguished performer and a meticulous custodian of ancient traditions. The extraordinary journey from a young initiate to the artistic heart of Lasyarasa required thousands of hours of physical conditioning and deep spiritual immersion. Today, she channels the entirety of this lifelong journey into her pedagogical approach, ensuring that the authentic lineage of these forms is transmitted to the next generation with the exact same reverence she experienced at the dawn of her own artistic awakening.

Forged in the Fires of Tradition

Early Virtuosity and the 1999 Kalolsavam Triumph

Dr. Omanakuttan’s developmental years were defined not just by practice, but by a profound versatility across different classical vocabularies. Archival photographs from her youth capture a remarkable artistic evolution—from mastering the rigid, geometric perfection of the Bharatanatyam Aramandi  to executing demanding choreographies that required balancing heavy traditional pots or embodying complex thematic characters. This diverse early exposure laid the groundwork for her current multifaceted expertise in multiple classical traditions.

Her extraordinary dedication culminated in a defining milestone in 1999. Against the fiercest competition in the state, she secured the prestigious State Level First Prize for Bharatanatyam at the Kerala School Kalolsavam in Kollam. Recognized globally as one of Asia’s largest and most competitive youth cultural festivals, a victory at the Kalolsavam is a testament to elite technical mastery and unparalleled expressive depth. This early triumph stands as concrete proof of the rigorous standards she maintained as a young artist—standards she continues to instill in her students at Lasyarasa today.
